SHILLONG: The United Democratic Alliance-led executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has decided to hold a meeting of all the 30 members to discuss on the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India on Tuesday.

“We will convene a meeting with all the 30 members tomorrow to discuss and take a collective decision on the proposed amendment,” KHADC chief Teinwell Dkhar told reporters after a meeting of the executive committee held here on Monday.

He said the main agenda of the meeting will be on the proposed increasing of the seats in the autonomous district councils.

Dkhar also informed that the executive committee has also discussed on the outcome of the meeting convened by the district council affairs minister James K Sangma, who is heading the committee constituted by the state government to look into the matter.

He however refused to divulge details of the meeting by saying, “The state government in the said meeting had suggested not to disclose the minutes of the meeting.”

The KHADC chief said that the three autonomous district councils have submitted a joint representation to the state government. On the proposal for nomination of unrepresented tribes in the ADCs, he said, “We have strongly opposed inclusion of such provision in the proposed amendment.”
