The Voice of the People Party (VPP)-led Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has terminated the services of 13 newly appointed employees and revoked the regularisation of the services of 30 casual employees after they were appointed without any sanctioned posts.
Informing this on Tuesday, KHADC chief Shemborlang Rynjah said the decision was taken based on the report submitted by a committee constituted by the EC for administrative streamlining the functioning of the council.
He informed that the committee, which sat for five times, have examined the services of the district council and in the process the appointment of 43 staff came up. Of these 13, were newly appointed and 30 were regularised after appointed as casual workers.
“After examining properly, we found that their appointment was made without any sanctioned posts,” Rynjah said adding “Based on the report submitted by the committee, the EC has decided to discontinue the services of the 13 newly appointed staff and in regards to the 30 casual employees, whose services have been regularised, we decided to revoke their regularisation and allow them to continue as casual workers.”
According to him, the 13 newly appointed staff joined the council in July and December last year as enforcement constables, peons, mali, cleaners etc.
Stating that the KHADC is financially unsound, Rynjah said at present, there are more than 70 contractual employees and the payment of salary is being taken care from the five percent administrative charge from the various schemes.
A delegation of the aggrieved employees affected by the order revoking their regularisation had also met Rynjah urging him to reconsider his decision.
Asked, the KHADC chief however maintained that the EC will not revoke its decision and said, “Now, it depends on them whether they want to continue or discontinue as casual workers.”
“We will also continue to take action against those appointments made without any sanctioned post,” he declared.
