The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday tabled a Rs 17,000’s deficit budget for the financial year 2022-23 on the first day of Council session.

Delivering his budget speech, Council’s deputy chief executive member Gigur Myrthong said, “There is a deficit in the budget estimate since the proposed expenditure of Rs 194,97,66,210 crore  is higher than the council’s revenue receipts of Rs 194,97,49,210.”

He however assured the house that the executive committee (EC) will try its best to find out ways and means to improve the revenue collection of the Council.

Myrthong also informed that the state government had released Rs 20.47 crore under the Tied Grant. “We hope that the government would also soon release the second installment of both the Tied and Untied for the year 2021-2022,” he said.

He said the council has also taken up infrastructure development which include construction of market complex at Laitlyngkot, Byrnihat, Riangdo, Mawryngkneng through the grant received from the excluded areas for 2019-20 and the Untied Grant of the Finance Commission.
