The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday asked the traditional chiefs to submit land documents with regards to their respective claims over the lands falling under the areas of difference in Ri Bhoi district, before November 30.

The request was made after a meeting was convened by the Council’s Boundary Committee with the traditional heads from  Hima Mylliem, Raid Nongtung, Hima Nongspung and Hima Jirang.

“We have asked all the Hima to submit their land documents within November 30, so that the KHADC will present all the papers before the regional committee for Ri Bhoi district,” KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne told reporters.

The regional committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong will hold its second round of meeting to discuss on  the areas of difference – Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-II – which falls under Ri Bhoi district  on November 30.

Chyne said Hima Myliem has assured to submit the land documents pertaining to Deshdoomreah (457 sq km), which used to be called as Khadar Bongtha.

“Hima Raid Nongtung is claiming the 22 villages under Block II while Hima Nongspung is claiming the 8 villages under Borduar (147 sq km) and Hima Jirang with regards to 14 villages under Nongwah-Mawtamur,” he said.

Meanwhile, the KHADC chief also condemned the Assam police firing that led to the killing of 5 persons at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills. “We strongly condemned the action by the Assam police. We will soon visit Mukroh to express our solidarity with the families of the victims killed in the incident. At the same time, we also urge the government to take strong action by initiating CBI or NIA probe into the incident,” he said.
