The Finance Secretary of Kangleipak Communist party (KCP) – People’s War Group (PWG) which is a banned terrorist organization of Manipur – was arrested from Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district.

Khundongbam Herojit Meitei was arrested from a rented house located at Nongthymmai, 15th Mile, Byrnihat and is involved in subversive activities like extortion, etc. in the State of Meghalaya as well as other neighbouring states during a counter-insurgency operation conducted by a team of Ri-Bhoi District Police on April 21 at 8.30 pm, district police chief Vivekananda Rathore said on Tuesday.

“From his possession, two mobile phones and other incriminating materials were seized. During interrogation, he admitted that he is a member of KCP(PWG) group and has been collecting money on behalf of the said organization,” he said.

“It appears, prima facie, that he was hiding in the Assam-Meghalaya border to avoid getting arrested by the security forces which are presently taking strict action on various militant organizations involved in creating law & order problems in the State of Manipur.

He is also suspected to be involved in criminal conspiracy with some Myanmar and Nepal based militant organizations,” the SP added.

He was arrested last year in Manipur for possession of illegal firearm and also in Dimapur in the year 2018 in a drug trafficking case.

A case has been registered at Nongpoh PS, and investigation is going on.

“Meghalaya Police is keeping a sharp watch on all anti-social and anti-national elements and strict action is being taken as per law,” the SP stated.
