The 26th martyrdom day of Kargil war hero Captain Jintu Gogoi was solemnly observed on Monday in Khumtai, Golaghat, in a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Capt Jintu Gogoi Trust. The late officer from the 17th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his gallantry during the Kargil War.

The commemoration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Capt Jintu Gogoi Memorial by the Commander of Jorhat Military Station. This was followed by a memorial run featuring 5 km and 15 km categories, which drew enthusiastic participation from over 300 people, including Army personnel, police, and local residents.

One of the standout moments of the event was the participation of six-year-old marathoner Jyotishna Saikia, who served as the ambassador for the memorial run and completed the 5 km stretch in 28 minutes.

The day’s events also included a motivational session recounting the heroic actions of Capt Gogoi. The session featured remarks from the Station Commander and a stirring talk by Flying Officer Thogiram Gogoi (Retd), the father of the martyr. Participants were reminded of the bravery, sacrifice, and service exemplified by Capt Gogoi.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of run winners and a group photograph. Organisers announced that beginning next year, the memorial event will be observed annually on November 21 to mark the birth anniversary of the late officer, in addition to honouring his supreme sacrifice.
