The Jaintia Tribal Traders’ Association (JTTA) said has expressed concern over the alleged rampant issuing of trading licenses by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and NOC by the traditional heads in Jowai and Jaintia Hills region as a whole.

JTTA president Iatha Najiar in a statement issued here on Saturday said that the rampant issuing of trading licenses and NOC by the JHADC and dorbar shnong respectively to non-indigenous traders and companies have affected the local people.

He said that the Council’s EM in-charge Taxation has recently convened a meeting with the dorbar shnong which falls under the commercial areas to discuss on the issue related to revenue from trading licenses.

“We feel it would be meaningless and rather the JHADC should be dissolved if it is only thinking for the interest of the MDCs and staff at the cost of the welfare of the indigenous people,” Najiar said.

He further slammed the village dorbars for disregarding the request of the association to refrain from issuing NOC to non-tribal traders.  “They (dorbar) do not even care to reply to our letter even after two years,”  he said.
