The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU)-Southern Border Zone East Jaintia Hill on Thursday urged the intervention of the power minister Abu Taher Mondal for immediate electricity connection at Dong Mihsngi locality of Bataw village.

In a memorandum submitted to Mondal, the JSU said currently, Dong Mihsngi locality has no electricity connection, and this has severely impacted the

daily lives of the community, especially during evening and at night.

It said that the students struggle to study at night, and families have difficulty in preparing meals and carrying out daily chores.

“The lack of electricity hinders their economic activities, as they are unable to operate businesses that require electricity and unable to effectively utilize their agricultural resources. The lack of street lighting and household power increases safety risks, especially during the evening and night hours,” the union stated.

The JSU said the minister has assured to resolve the issue in the coming months through the RDSS scheme (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme).
