The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) South Border Zone have taken up repairing work of the Huroi-Hingaria road located along the international border in East Jaintia Hills district.

Its president, Ajoyminson Lyngdoh said that the decision was taken after receiving several complaints from the residents of the border villages which include Hingeria, Huroi, Lahelein and Lejri about the pathetic condition of the road.

He said people of these villages are facing extreme hardships especially during monsoon as connectivity is almost totally cut off.

Lyngdoh further slammed the state government for turning a deaf ear to the grievances and suffering of the people by neglecting this road for the past many years.

He said the state government has from time to time claimed to have enough funds for construction of roads but yet fails to address the problems faced by the border population.

Meanwhile, the JSU has also threatened to resort to agitation if the state government continue to be adamant towards construction of the border road.
