JSU suspends agitation after DSEO proposes evening shift for left-out SSLC students

The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) on Friday temporarily suspended its ongoing agitation over the non-admission of SSLC-passed students, following a positive response from the District School Education Officer (DSEO), West Jaintia Hills.
The decision came after the Union submitted a list of nearly 200 students who had cleared the SSLC Examination 2025 but failed to secure admission in any government higher secondary institution in Jowai. Responding to the concern, the DSEO, A.P. Syiem, proposed the immediate opening of an Evening Batch Session at Kiang Nangbah Government Higher Secondary School, Jowai.
In an official letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the DSEO highlighted the urgent need to accommodate these students and recommended the appointment of Assistant Lecturers (Arts stream) and non-teaching staff for the smooth functioning of the proposed evening shift. The letter also suggested that concerned authorities identify examination sectors for the efficient conduct of future board exams under the new shift arrangement.
The JSU welcomed the move and stated that while the agitation is temporarily halted, it will continue to closely monitor the government’s actions.
