The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) on Wednesday demanded the state government to introduce evening section at the Kiang Nangbah Government College (KNGC) and a morning section at the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) in Jowai for increasing their intake capacity of students to address the problem of admission.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma, JSU said that the present intake capacity of the KNGC is only 350 students for both sections A and B in the morning and day sections while the GBHSS has an even lower intake capacity of just 115 students across both sections, limited in the day session only.

“In view of these limitations and the increasing demand for higher secondary education, we earnestly appeal to the government to introduce an evening section at KNGC and a morning section at GBHSS, to increase the intake capacity of students,” it stated.

“Additionally, we strongly recommend the construction of extension buildings at both institutions to support long-term infrastructure development and further accommodate the growing number of students in the region,” JSU added.

According to them, addressing this issue will help in resolving the ongoing issue of limited student intake capacity, which has resulted in many students being denied admission and the opportunity to pursue their higher secondary education.
