    The Jaintia Students Union on Thursday called for the implementation of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic session of 2023-24.

    This will give fair and equal chances to students for preparation for the entrance examination as per the syllabus and subjects specified for the entrance test, said the Jaintia Students Union in a letter to the Central Govt and State Govt.

    They suggest setting up Help-Desk at various levels of Government administrative headquarters

    It is more appropriate and helpful especially to students residing in rural and other remotest villages of the State if such a proposed Help-Desk with proper I.T infrastructure be set up at various levels of Meghalaya Government Administrative Head Quarters located at various Block, Sub Divisional, District and State level so that fair and equal opportunity will be provided to every concerned students who are looking for urgent help and assistance in any matters concerning CUET from such help desks that are easily available to them and properly accessible to all at their door steps to guide them in the right manner to ease their challenges as well as to avoid any confusions and unnecessary disadvantages that may traumatise our students at this juncture when it comes to CUET being the new system of admission as implemented.

    Appointment of Dedicated Counsellors for Entrance Exams at the Higher Secondary Institutions

    It is more helpful if a trained dedicated Counsellors be appointed by the concern authority of all Higher Secondary educational Institutions located across the length and breadth of the state who will be playing a responsible role of being a Guide in helping the students along for appearing Entrance Exams (CUET) be it registration, examination pattern, prescribed syllabus etc. since students of higher secondary from Class XI onwards are needed an elaborate guidance on various features and examination structure that maybe helpful to CUET aspirants. Similar steps may kindly be taken for other entrance tests to other academic courses or programmes.

    Examination Centre should be made available at all District Headquarters

    The conduct of entrance test as per notification only at Shillong and Ri- Bhoi will bar students from distant areas from having an equal accessibility. Jowai and Khliehriat being the District Headquarters of both West and East Jaintia Hills Districts is indeed needed to have equal setups for examination Centre to cater to all the requirements of CUET’s aspirants from the entire Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

    The Jaintia Students’ Union welcome the move by the Ministry of Education to have a single examination for entrance to different undergraduate programmes.
