As is the cherished tradition, January 1 witnessed a vibrant and joyous New Year celebration in Jowai, marked by the enthusiastic participation of various localities and communities.

The day began with annual community feasts in each locality, where neighbours gathered to share meals in a spirit of unity. Following this, residents poured into the streets to revel in the festivities, dancing and celebrating to uplifting music that echoed through the town.

This year’s celebration was no different in its grandeur, with men, women, youth, and children coming together in a jubilant display of community spirit and cultural pride.

The highlight of the festivities unfolded at Iawmusiang, where groups from different localities performed vibrant dances and soulful songs that captured the essence of the New Year spirit. The air was filled with electrifying energy as traditional instruments and melodies brought everyone together.

At Iawmusiang, the participating groups were warmly welcomed by leaders of the Synjuk Waheh Shnong Jowai, the District Tourism Officer, the District Tourism Promotion Society, and the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills.

Dolloi of Elaka Jowai, Puramon Kynjing, graced the occasion and presented certificates along with cash awards of Rs 20,000 each to all participating groups, a generous contribution from the state Tourism Department.

This year’s celebration featured 18 localities: Khimusniang, Chutwakhu, Ladthadlaboh, Tympang Iawmusiang, Lion Mission Compound, Mynthong, Tpep Pale, Dongmihsngi, Khliehmynkrem, Khliehiongriang, Myntdu Pynthornein, Salaroh, Loomsooiung, Moosalyngkat, Mookyrdup, Lumpariat, Panaliar, and Caroline.
