  • Jowai Municipal Board undertakes several developmental schemes not just collection of garbages

    Many people assumed and presumed that the only service undertaken by the Jowai Municipal Board is the collection of garbage from the residences and market places of Jowai Town.

    However the assumption and presumption are all wrong as besides collection of garbage or waste management there are several other activities undertaken by the Jowai Municipal Board.

    Spelling out the developmental activities undertaken by Jowai Municipal Board, Chief Executive Officer B Blah said through theb14th Finance Commission they funded the construction of the Internal Road opposite DC office Wahnangbah Road- Iawmusiang.

    She also informed from the 15th Finance Commission Award Basic Grant 24 numbers of work orders have been issued to different localities for various construction out of which 17 have been completed.

    Blah said that under Individual Household Toilets (IHHL) scheme they have 74 work orders and out of which 57 have been completed.

    The Chief Executive Officer informed in-Situ Nallah treatment for filtering and treating 11 outfalls that drain the different localities to river Myndtu were taken up by the Board.

    Blah apprised “We also implemented the welfare scheme through DAY-NULM, by formation of SHG and a revolving fund Rs. 10,000/- is given to the SHG and subsequently other funds are given”,

    She also said that through Self employment programme where 30 beneficiaries received loans of 2 lakhs each.

    The Chief Executive Officer informed under the Support of street vendors through PM Svanidhi scheme the office selected 30 beneficiaries for 1st installment loan at Rs, 10,000/- each.

    She further informed that the Jowai Municipal has also conducted awareness in all localities and in 17 schools. The awareness program will continue in schools, market areas and localities.

    The Jowai Municipal Board was formed in 1995 after a agreement was signed between the Meghalaya Govt and the JHADC where the erstwhile Jowai Town Committee of JHADC was abolished.
