NPP legislator from Jowai Wailadmiki Shylla has sought the intervention of the Urban Affairs minister Hamletson Dohling into the need to release the 10-month pending salary of Jowai Municipal Board employees.

“I request you to personally look into the matter and find out ways and means to address the issue as soon as possible so that the staff may continue to work with renewed vigour and give the best services to the public especially being one of the frontliners in fighting and containing the spread of the pandemic,” Shylla said in his letter to the minister.

He said that employees of the JMB have not received their salary since August last year and this has greatly impacted their day to day life.

“They are forced to borrow to feed their family and meet their daily needs. Moreover by the time they get paid they will not be able to save anything since all their salaries will be exhausted in paying off all that they have borrowed,” the MLA said.

According to him, the impact of COVID-19 has further compounded their miseries since the price of all essential commodities has shot up.
