SHILLONG, MAR 3: NPP legislator from Jowai Wailadmiki Shylla  on Monday slammed the VPP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit for alleging that the just concluded elections to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) was not free and fair.

Shylla said as an MLA from Jaintia Hills region, he is disturbed by the accusation made by a senior leader that the JHADC elections were not held in a free and fair manner.

“It is so sad to hear from a very senior leader that in areas where they won, it is free and fair but in areas where they lose, it is not free and fair,” he said while countering the Basaiawmoit’s allegation during the debate on the Governor’s Address.

The NPP has won as many as 13 seats in the JHADC elections while the VPP got only 8 seats.

Stating that the people of Jaintia Hills has given a clear mandate, Shylla said that the district administration and police have worked so hard to ensure a free and fair election

He however said but it is common for a party which loses to blame it on the EVMs and others.
