In a push to improve higher education infrastructure in West Jaintia Hills, Jowai MLA and MUDA Chairman Wailadmiki Shylla visited Kiang Nangbah Government College on June 20, to assess its condition and identify areas in need of urgent attention.

Shylla was accompanied by College Principal LM Darnei, an engineer from the Public Works Department (PWD), and other concerned officers. During the visit, they reviewed various sections of the college, including the canteen, the proposed site for teachers’ quarters, the severely deteriorated auditorium, multiple classrooms, and the library.

The MLA noted that while some improvements have taken place over time, the shortage of classrooms—especially during admission season—remains a major concern that has affected students year after year.

He shared that the issue had already been raised with the Chief Minister during his recent visit to Jowai, and that the Chief Minister had assured him of support to expand and improve the college’s infrastructure.

To address these challenges, Shylla announced that a Rs 30 crore development plan has been drawn up. The proposal includes the construction of additional classrooms, expansion of the canteen, renovation of the auditorium, and construction of staff quarters. The plan will be submitted to the state government for necessary action, with the aim of transforming the college into a better-equipped institution that can meet the growing educational needs of the district.
