    Serving a quit notice to the Khasi Students Union War Jaintia Circle, the Synjuk Ki Waheh Chnong War Jaintia and the residents of the six villages opposing the disposal of garbage from Jowai Town in Mynkjai Landfill under Amlarem Sub Division, the Synjuk Ki Waheh Chnong Jowai (SKWCJ) banned their entry to Jowai Town till otherwise and will not be responsible if any untoward occurred to them in defiance.

    Addressing reporters at Dorbar Shnong Tympang Auditorium, Iawmusiang, Jowai, SWCJ President Alan Niangty and SWCJ General Secretary Riquoma Rq Laloo said that they are compelled to resort to a such drastic steps as the people of the six villages namely Mupyut Umsalang, Madantyrpait, Skhenpyrsit, Moosakhia, Pynthor Langtein and the KSU War Jaintia Circle refused to cooperate with the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) and the people of Jowai Town in allowing the temporary use of the Mynkjai Landfill for disposal of garbage from Jowai Town which have amassed in huge tons in Iawmusiang, Lad Thomas Jones College and Iawthymmei besides other places as well.

    Niangty informed that they will cease to extend cooperation with the District Administration in handling and managing the present COVID-19 pandemic in Jowai Town and the will also not cooperate in the observation of the 75th Independence Day Celebration in Jowai Town and they may celebrate Independence Day in  their respective localities.

    The SWCJ General Secretary said, “We will be seeking legal advice on the possibility of filing Public Interest Litigation for addressing the crisis of non disposal of garbage.”

    He informed that they have decided to go for public rally to be participated by residents of Jowai Town on the August 17th next if the Government fails to resolve the matter.

    Laloo said that they will report to the Chief Secretary of the State on the failure to enforce Section 144 Cr. PC in and around Mynkjai areas on Monday by the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District and if the law cannot be enforce then what is the purpose of issuing such an order.
