  • JNV Mukhla hosted workshop and performance to celebrate Saint Meera Bai’s 525th birth anniversary

    Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills, organized a two-day workshop and performance on Saint Meera Bai on 2nd and 3rd September 2024. The event commemorated the 525th birth anniversary of Saint Meera Bai and was conducted in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama, New Delhi.

    The workshop and performance are part of the ‘Kala Dharohar’ series launched by Sangeet Natak Akademi. This initiative aims to enhance students’ knowledge of Indian performing arts, support the National Education Policy (NEP), and bring students closer to Indian cultural heritage.

    The two-day workshop focused on Meera Bhajans and was led by renowned artist Jiten Basumatary. The inaugural session took place on 2nd September, with SK Lato, Vice President of the Rotary Club, Jowai, and President of the Jaintia Tourism and Environment Society (JTES), attending as the chief guest. Pynshai Shylla, Headman of Mukhla Umlangshor, was the guest of honour.

    “We are honoured to be chosen by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and Sangeet Natak Akademi to conduct this workshop and performance,” said Neeraj Kumar, Principal of JNV Mukhla. He further highlighted that JNV Mukhla is the only school in Meghalaya selected for this significant event.

    The event featured a performance led by Jiten Basumatary, accompanied by Dibyajyoti Clangmai on the tabla and Jonali Ojha Basumatary on the Tanpura. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Project Director Dr. Pratibha Sarma from Satriya Kendra, Guwahati, Sangeet Natak Akademi, who addressed the participants on the importance of preserving and promoting Indian arts.
