Despite not receiving salaries for the past eight months, the employees of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) continued to attend their daily official duties with the hope that today or tomorrow they will receive their salaries and they will be able to clear their loans taken from their friends and relatives to keep their kitchen fire burning.

Their patience for waiting for eight long months and not just for the first time however ran out on Monday. They came out of their office rooms in more than 500 numbers and hoisted black flags in the four walls of JHADC’s compound to vent out their anger against the non-payment of salaries by the authority concerned.

The employees united together under the banner of the JHADC Staff Association organised a dharna with placards one month back for non payment of their salaries since January, this year.

The employees dharna paid some dividend as the authority concerned credited their salaries for the month of January this year.

Sharing her woes for non payment of salaries for months, one lady employee exclaimed her profound gratitude to the Almighty for gifting her and her family with good health throughout this time else “I will not be able to pay the hospital bills if I or any family members needs to be hospitalized.”

Informing the Association’s future course of agitations, JHADC Staff Association President Johnson Pohrmen said,” We will intensified our agitation with a three day long dharna from 10 am to 4.30pm after the Winter Session concludes in case we still do not receive our salaries.”
