    Raising apprehension over the ongoing exercise of Delimitation of Constituencies, Jowai Central MDC A Andrew Shullai said that exercise appeared to be for political convenience rather than administrative convenience.

    Shullai expressed his apprehension during the question & answer hour in the budget session of JHADC on Thursday.

    The former Chief Executive Member questioned on the total numbers of electorates that would be earmarked for each constituency during the Delimitation’s exercise.

    Giving a reply to the question put forward by Shullai, JHADC Chief Executive Member Thombor said the purpose of reorganising District Council constituencies of JHADC is for administrative convenience and also to rectify the vast differences in the number of voters between the constituencies.

    He also said that the Delimitation Committee has been constituted for examining the delimitation of the JHADC constituencies in accordance with the orders and observation of the Governor communicated to this District Council vide letter No. DCA.22/2013/225 dated 20.11.23 from the government of Meghalaya, DCA Department.

    Shiwat said the Delimitation exercise will try to bring about 10000/11000 electorate for each constituency but there might few thousand difference here and there.
