    Amidst opposition and call for review by a Select Committee, the special session of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) passed the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Amendment Bill, 2024 on Thursday.

    The Bill was legislated for the delimitation of the 29 constituencies was tabled by Chief Executive Member of JHADC Thombor Shiwat on the initial day of the Special Session on Wednesday.

    Prior the passing of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Amendment Bill, 2024, a general discussion on the bill was held on the morning of Thursday.

    The MDCs who sought the review of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Amendment Bill, 2024 by a Select Committee are Finely Bareh and Robinus Syngkon. The two MDCS vented out their opposition to the delimitation of constituencies for the number of electorates is inequal among the various constituencies.

    Saipung MDC A H Darnei opposed the inclusion of Pnar villages in Saipung Nongkhlieh constituency.

    He also sought for the reviews of the delimitation of constituencies by a select committee.

    Jowai Cental MDC A A Shullai, Jowai North MDC B Chyrmang, Sohkymphor Muthlong MDC Lomris Lyngdoh opposed the delimitation of constituencies.

    The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Amendment Bill, 2024 was passed on the afternoon of Thursday.
