Jaintia Hills schools shine bright on Subroto Cup opening day

It was a strong start for Jaintia Hills as schools from both East and West Jaintia Hills districts made their mark on the opening day of the State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2025. Played across three venues—SAI STC NEHU, SSA Stadium Polo, and Mawlai Madan Heh—the tournament kicked off on Tuesday with high-energy matches in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys, and Under-17 Girls categories.
In the Under-15 Boys, Musniang Secondary School from East Jaintia Hills played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Assam Rifles Public School from East Khasi Hills. Mebatyngshain Dkhar and Everlasting Dkhar (2 goals) were the scorers for Musniang, while Wayne Shatsang and Thanghgoulum Vaiphei (2 goals) replied for Assam Rifles.
KJP Synod Sepngi Hr. Sec. School from West Khasi Hills suffered a 1-2 loss against Mandalpang Govt. L.P. School from North Garo Hills. Banbhabok Wahlang netted for Synod, but Nalseng R. Marak and Balseng K. Sangma ensured victory for Mandalpang.
Mawtneng U.P. & Secondary School from Ri-Bhoi defeated Little Star Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills 4-0. Banpynroilang Shadap struck twice, with Malong Bey and Bawankynsai Mukhim also getting on the scoresheet.
Little Star English Medium Sec. School from Eastern West Khasi Hills began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Baghmara from South Garo Hills. Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai scored a brace, and Pynroilang Lyngdoh Kynshi sealed the victory.
In the Under-17 Girls, Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School from Ri-Bhoi beat Little Star English Medium School from Eastern West Khasi Hills 4-0. Streamlet Taro, Rimika Khongkai, and Daphi Syngkli, who scored twice, powered their team to a comfortable win.
Jakrem Presbyterian Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills thrashed Kokurol Hr. Sec. School from South Garo Hills 11-0 in a completely one-sided match. Lakyntiew Merry K. Lyngdoh and Phibanpyntngen Wahlang each scored four goals, with additional strikes from Phibanri Kharlyngdoh and Mebalari Syiemlieh.
North Liberty Higher Secondary School from West Jaintia Hills delivered a dominating performance with an 8-0 win over Kharkutta U.P. School from North Garo Hills. Elad Ksoo and Baiarbha Nongrum netted two goals each, while Peacefully Pohplet completed a hat-trick and Glorify Lakiang added one more.
Lotus Secondary School from East Jaintia Hills hammered KGVB School, Samanda from East Garo Hills 9-0. Alisha Lyngdoh scored a hat-trick, Saphapaya Lyngdoh and Risaka Phawa scored two goals each, and Thehlut Sana and Rimika Kharkrang contributed one apiece.
In the Under-17 Boys, Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School from West Garo Hills secured a 2-0 win over Borsing Memorial Secondary School from West Khasi Hills. Kandora Danrik Sangma opened the scoring before an own goal by Mebanjanai Thongni sealed the result.
Horirai Syiemlieh Memorial Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills drew 2-2 with Rongrenggre Govt. Hr. Sec. School from East Garo Hills. Rishotskhem Thongni and Jimris Syiemlieh found the net for Horirai, while Mishael B. Marak struck twice for Rongrenggre.
North Liberty Hr. Sec. School from West Jaintia Hills continued their impressive day with a 4-0 win over Little Star English Medium School from Eastern West Khasi Hills. Banteilangki Sumer and Erickson Shylla scored two goals each.
Wapung Hr. Sec. School from East Jaintia Hills crushed Karukol Hr. Sec. School from South Garo Hills 7-0. Liaison Ryngkhlem and Any Manar scored twice, with additional goals from Oswinlalthadik Darnei, Kunebhaki Phawa, and Rooneybert Dkhar.
