The 24 hour long road blockade called in protest over the non-repair of the National Highway 6 along East Jaintia Hills District commenced on Thursday morning.

Organized by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of various villages along NH-6, the road blockade is against the Meghalaya government and NHAI’s failure to repair the deplorable condition of the road along the Highway.

The villages under the JAC are Ratacherra, Dona Umbluh, Dona Skul, Umkiang, Lumphyllut, Lumsoski, Pyrtakuna, Borsara, Kuliang, and Shymplong Tongseng.

The protesters came out onto the streets and halted the movement of vehicles from 6 AM. The JAC will halt vehicular movement till 6 AM on March 8.

National Highway 6 is one of the major highways in the northeastern region, connecting parts of Assam (Barak Valley), Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and part of Manipur.

NHAI tendered apology to Meghalaya High Court for producing recycled photographs of repair works in NH -6
