Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairperson Dr. S Somanath inspired students to explore careers in science and technology during his interaction at the ongoing India International Science Festival 2024 (IISF 2024) at IIT Guwahati on Monday.

Addressing a “Student Science Interactive Programme – Face to Face with New Frontiers in S&T”, Somanath encouraged students to innovate and contribute to India’s space research and technological advancements.

Somanath said, “As students, you are the torchbearers of the future in science and technology. By recognising the remarkable innovations and advancements taking place today, you can pursue similar paths and contribute to building a brighter tomorrow. Your engagement is pivotal to realizing India’s vision of global leadership in these fields.”

The second and third days of the festival saw an array of vibrant activities fostering collaboration, innovation, and learning. The event, organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and managed by CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, attracted over 20,000 students and numerous policymakers, educators, and scientific leaders.

IISF 2024 featured technical sessions and discussions aimed at bridging the gap between industry and academia. These sessions promoted knowledge sharing and highlighted sustainable practices across fields like agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare.

CSIR signed three significant technology transfer MoUs, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

CSIR-NIIST Director Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan praised the efforts of young innovators, stating,  “Today, students are already building rockets and satellites in colleges, efforts that are nearing commercial success. Understanding advancements in space and technology offers immense opportunities to shape a brighter future.”

The festival also included engaging sessions like Science through Games & Adventure, Students Science & Technology Village, Ideas for Viksit Bharat, and Vision Sansad.

IISF 2024 exemplified India’s commitment to nurturing young talent and advancing its position as a global leader in science and technology. The festival’s diverse programs and initiatives empowered students and educators alike, fostering creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration for a brighter future.
