SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has slammed the chief minister Conrad K Sangma for trying to impose his views on addressing the issue of influx in the state.

“We have not seen the government taking initiative to have consultation on this issue except seeing the CM trying to impose his views. Are we made to believe that the CM is paying more attention to the views and suggestions of the BJP and the RSS in the interest of vote bank politics,” KHNAM chief Pyndapborthiaw Saibon said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

His statement came as a reaction to the statement made by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma appealing to the NGOs not to make the Inner Line Permit (ILP) an issue.

Saibon said the KHNAM as a party will continue to demand for the immediate implementation of the ILP in the state.

“The implementation of the ILP does not mean to restrict Indian nationals from entering the state but it is the need of the hour to know who are entering and when they are leaving the state,” he said.

Saibon said how the chief minister can claim that the ILP cannot be implemented in the state when the High Level Committee on Influx constituted by the state government has recommended its implementation.

“I want to remind the chief minister that the ILP is a weapon to protect the indigenous population of the state and the failure to implement the ILP has become a long pending issue till today,” he added.
