Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has informed that investigation is going on with regard to the alleged attempt to rape on Khasi ladies by Assam police in West Khasi Hills District.

He was replying to a query raised by North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum on the issue on Monday.

Nongrum wanted to know the action taken against the three Assam police, who have been identified by the victims.

To this, Rymbui said the case has been registered with the Nongstoin police station and investigation is on.

“I cannot give any timeline as collection of evidences will happen after which charge sheet will be submitted,” he said.

According to Rymbui, the distance of the incident took place from nearest police outpost is 2 km from Langpih anti-dacoity camp.

On Nongrum’s demand for the government to take up the matter seriously, the minister said, “It is the endeavor of the state government to see security of the people (residing along the interstate border) is protected within the state.”
