    East Guwahati Police Department team from Basistha PS, Assam arrested five persons involved in the thefts of goods worth Rs. 43 lakhs transported by a truck (AS26AC0874) en route from Guwahati to Silchar on April 28 this year and also recovered the truck in West Jaintia Hills District.

    Police said acting on a complaint of misappropriation by the driver & his associates, the team launched a thorough probe and apprehended two notorious hijackers from the Khanapara area namely Ekram Hussain aka Imran (22) and Hafizur Miya (27).

    Police said from the outcome of interrogation of the two arrested persons led to a further operation at Saradiya, Barpeta, resulting in the arrest of two more accused namely Babul Hoque (27) and Jiyarul Islam (29).

    Police said based on technical analysis, the stolen consignment was later recovered in Shillong, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya from the possession of Rakesh Kumar Mahato (33). Police said the missing truck was also found abandoned at Jowai Ialong Tollgate, Meghalaya.

    Police said that the recovered items were 3 barrels (210L), 6 Crompton fans, 283 cartons of Marico products, 50 lubricant urea buckets, 12 readymade garments, 2 boxes of electric goods, 3 cartons of Dabur products, 67 Colgate cartons, 5 cartons of 3M products and 5 cartons of Real Juice
