    The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with the theme “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention” at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School on June 26. The event, organized by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer in collaboration with the Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA), aimed to raise awareness about the perils of drug abuse and promote preventive measures.

    The program was graced by R Bareh District Social Welfare Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, S Buam Sub Inspector of Police, Dr. J Nongtdu Medical Officer In-charge of Oral Substitution Therapy, S Tariang Jaintia Cluster Programme Manager, District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS, J Pdang Assistant Public Prosecutor and Fr. J Swer Principal of Khliehriat Higher Secondary School.

    R Bareh emphasized the importance of educating young people about the harmful effects of drugs. She urged students to spread awareness to eradicate drug abuse from society.

    S Buam provided insights into the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, covering its aims, provisions, and penalties.

    Dr. J Nongtdu discussed types of drug abuse, addiction stages, and the economic and social impact. He highlighted the need for prevention.

    Attendees, led by R. Patlong Program Manager, MCSWA, took a pledge to combat drug abuse. Prizes were awarded to students who actively participated in discussions.
