Innovative projects selected to represent Meghalaya at National Children’s Science Congress

The Two-Day “State-Level Children Science Congress” jointly organised by State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya and Science Departments, Shillong College, Shillong held on the 8th and 9th November 2023. The event was supported and catalyzed by NCSTC, DST, Government of India came to an end on the 9th November,2021 at Shillong College Auditorium.
This Programme was organised as part of the 31st National Children’s Science Congress as well as one of the events to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Teaching Science in Shillong College. The Theme of NCSC 2023 is “Understanding Ecosystem for Health and Wellbeing”.
Swapnil Tembe, IAS, Director of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy graced the Inaugural function as the Chief Guest where in his speech, he encouraged all the participants that participation is more important than winning.
Hanika Barim of Mynken Christian Hr. Sec. School, Bhoirymbong, Jessica Marwein of St. Ferrando Sec. School, Sawsymper and Albin L Marshillong of St. Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Nongkasen who secured in top 20 merit list of MBOSE SSLC Examination 2023 that had enrolled in the free crash tuition in Mathematics and Science for the MBOSE SSLC Examination 2023 organized by SCSTE at 130 centres across the states were also felicitated with cash prize and a memento.
Dr. (Mrs.) E. Kharkongor, Principal, Shillong College and AS Suting, Retd. Assistant Project Director, S&T Cell, Planning Department, Govt. of Meghalaya also spoke during the Inaugural Function.
Out of the 64 selected Project teams shortlisted from all the 12 District, eight projects have been selected to represent the State at the National level to be held in the month of December 2023.
The eight projects selected included three teams from the Junior category and five teams from the Senior category.
In the Junior Category:
- St Francis De Sales, Umwahlang, WKHD – Development Of Local Liquid Fuel
- Mawrong Government UPS, Ri Bhoi District – Organic Ointment for Multipurpose Treatment
- Sacred Heart HSS, Williamnagar, EGHD – Artocarpus Heterophyllus as a Healthy Fruit Juice
In the Senior Category:
- Jirang Govt Hr Sec. School – Uses of Biochar as a Natural Fertilizer
- Rev. JJM Nichols-Roy Sec School – Studying The Color of the River and Specifically Conducting the Test if the Water is Fit for Human Consumption
- North Liberty Higher Secondary School – Study and Understanding the Effects of Plastics in Our Local Area
- Shillong Public School – Computing Carrying Capacity of Earthworms Under Different Feeds
- St Dominic Savio SS, SWGHD – Use of Packet Food Increases Plastic Waste and Promotes Junk Food; Health of School Children a Matter of Concern
