Indus Towers boosts sanitation for Meghalaya’s girls: Hygienic washrooms inaugurated in government schools

In a major step toward improving sanitation and hygiene for female students, Indus Towers Limited, in collaboration with the Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID), has inaugurated newly constructed washroom facilities in three government schools across Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya on Friday.
The initiative, launched under Indus Towers’ flagship CSR programme ‘Pragati’, aligns with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and aims to create safe and hygienic sanitation infrastructure for young girls in schools.
The Umden Umroi RMSA Secondary School washrooms were officially inaugurated by Meghalaya Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Alexander Laloo Hek, along with MLA Damanbait Lamare, Special Project Director SSA Swapnil Tembe, and Indus Towers Circle CEO-NESA Rajender Singh Gurung.
The objective is to provide safe sanitation facilities, thereby improving health and hygiene, and fostering a conducive environment for education.
Speaking on the occasion, Hek emphasized the importance of such initiatives, saying, “This is a vital step in ensuring dignity and well-being for our daughters. Many students struggle with inadequate sanitation, affecting their education. I commend Indus Towers for their efforts and urge more such initiatives across Meghalaya.”
Rajender Singh Gurung, CEO of Indus Towers (NESA), reiterated the company’s commitment to social impact, “Beyond infrastructure, we aim to empower students with dignity and confidence. Our goal is to create a comprehensive hygiene ecosystem that benefits not just students but the entire community.”
