Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the state government will leave no stone unturned to ensure those behind the murder of an Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was recovered from a deep gorge at Weisawdong falls, after he and his wife Sonam went missing while on a honeymoon to Sohra, will be brought to book.

“We will leave no stone unturned and whatever has to be done to get out of the facts and to make sure that the people who are responsible for this should be brought to book,” Sangma told reporters.

On demand of the family members for a CBI probe into the case, the chief minister however said the government will take appropriate decision.

“It is important to get to the facts of the situation, very important and the truth must come out. Therefore, whatever steps there are required as per the situation, we will take appropriate decisions then. Right now, it is too early to say what’s happening and how much we know and how much we don’t know because the so many missing links and factors even now as we speak,” he added.

The chief minister also assured the family members of the Indore couple that the government is also trying to work as fast as possible to find the wife of the deceased victim, who is still missing.

Terming the incident as very unfortunate, Sangma also described it as something which nobody has seen in Meghalaya.

“It has taken all of us by surprise and all of us by shock, in fact. Even the local people always surprised, the local stakeholders in the tourism sector are very surprise and very concern. So it is something that we actually never expected,” he stated.

Stating that Meghalaya has always been a tourist friendly state, Sangma said, “We have always ensure the safety of tourists. In the last many years lakhs of tourist has come.

So this is something very out of the ordinary for us.

Having said that we are very of course, that this kind of incident is happened and my deepest condolences and respect for the family members, I know it’s a great loss for them but I want to assure the family members that we are working overtime to make sure that we get to the facts and the depth of really what happened.”

“We are all not very clear as of now what the sequences of events were, what happened, how it happened, we are still looking for the wife also of the individual whose body was found,” he added.
