    A collaboration has been reached between the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre for Arts, New Delhi and the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong for showcasing the talents of Meghalayan in the field of arts and culture in New Delhi, which will eventually leads to the global popularisation.

    The collaboration was reached in a meeting between Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of NEHU and Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, the Member Secretary of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre for Arts, New Delhi on Friday last.

    The discussions was held on how to boost the cultural aspects of North-East India, which would eventually help in the promotion of the arts and culture of the region to the rest of the world.

    Dr. Joshi pointed out that the cultural aspects and the rich heritage of the North-East region have not been tapped to a level which could popularise the north-eastern region.

    He said although there have been instances where the researchers have worked and studied about the custom, culture, the folklore and arts of the North-Eastern region of India, however, much more can be done to popularise the arts, crafts and culture of the region.

    The Vice-Chancellor of NEHU said that Meghalaya is a very rich state culturally which need promotions which would enable to grow both culturally and economically. A lot of work is being done at the University level to preserve and promote the rich culture of Meghalaya.

    He exhorted on the fact that the job of NEHU is not just to impart education and provide degrees but to also engage in extension works which would benefit the civil society of Meghalaya at large.

    He said this kind of collaborations would bring opportunities to the University fraternity to be directly involved with the people in making a progress in the society.

    At the end of the meeting the Secretary of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre for Arts, New Delhi presented the Vice-Chancellor with a coffee table book “Jewels of North-East India” authored by the Dr. Joshi.
