The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) authority on Thursday said that the incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof SK Srivastava will comply with the provisions of University acts and statutes with regards to his vice-chancellorship.

This also came after a recent protest staged by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the NEHU comprising the teachers, non-teaching and student bodies, demanding the Centre not to extend the tenure of the incumbent vice-chancellor.

Prof SK Srivastave will be completing his five years term as VC on September 23.

“Prof Srivastava will comply in letter and spirit with the provisions of NEHU Acts & Statutes regarding his Vice-Chancellorship,” NEHU PRO, G Umdor said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement said that the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor, NEHU is in accordance with NEHU Acts & Statutes.

Regarding the incumbency of the office/term of the VC, it said that the amended Statutes 2 (A)(2) of the University pertaining to the VC states :-“The VC shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office and shall be eligible for reappointment for not more than another term – provided that the incumbent Vice-Chancellor will hand-over charge to the Senior-most Professor on the expiry of his/her term if the new Vice-Chancellor has not been appointed and is not available to take charge. Provided further that the Visitor may direct that a VC, whose term of office has expired, shall continue in office for such a period, not exceeding a total period of one year, as may be specified in the direction.”
