    Meghalaya is bracing for significant rainfall as a cyclonic circulation intensifies over northeast Bangladesh and neighbouring areas, impacting weather conditions across the region.

    According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Meghalaya during next 5 days.

    The IMD has issued specific warnings for various districts in Meghalaya from 19th to 23rd June 2024:

    19th June 2024:

    • East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and West Jaintia Hills are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall.
    • West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
    • North Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills districts may witness heavy rainfall.
    • Thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted over most parts of Meghalaya.

    20th June 2024:

    • Similar conditions persist with heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated over East Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills districts.
    • West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills districts likely to experience heavy rainfall.
    • Thunderstorms and lightning expected across the state.

    21st June 2024:

    • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over East Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills districts.
    • West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and South Garo Hills may experience heavy rainfall.
    • Thunderstorm and lightning activity anticipated statewide.

    22nd June 2024:

    • Heavy rainfall expected across multiple districts including East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, North Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills.
    • Thunderstorms and lightning likely to affect most parts of Meghalaya.

    23rd June 2024:

    • Heavy rainfall forecasted for East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills districts.
    • Thunderstorms and lightning expected across the state.
