IMD issues red alert for parts of Meghalaya on May 29-30

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Meghalaya, warning of severe weather conditions on May 29 and 30.
The districts under red alert include Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills on both May 29 and 30, while East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and North Garo Hills will be under red alert on May 29.
Other districts including Ri-Bhoi, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Garo Hills, and South Garo Hills are advised to stay prepared as squally winds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph with heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely at isolated places.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure loose objects and property to minimize the impact of the adverse weather conditions.
