    In accordance with the National Green Tribunal and with the directives issued by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya to prohibit haphazard illegal coal mining and transportation of coal. The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills under Section 144 Cr. PC has issued the following Orders:

    • No illegal transportation of coal along the State and National Highway within West Jaintia Hills District until further orders by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble National Green Tribunal.
    • No illegal mining of coal should be carried out in the entire District until further orders by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble National Green Tribunal.
    • No ferrying or carrying of coal from mines/jungles to the coal depot/stockyard.

    The order states that if anyone is detected or found violating the above stipulated conditions, stern action will be taken against them as per provisions of the Law. (These will include coal’ mines owners, Labourers, Truck owners, Drivers etc).

    This Order shall come into force with immediate effect until further Orders.
