Illegal mining & transportation of coal prohibited in West Khasi Hills

West Khasi Hills District Magistrate Garod LSN Dykes has imposed Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code prohibiting mining of coal and transportation in any form of illegally mined coal in the jurisdiction of West Khasi Hills District.

This Order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

The prohibitory order has been issued in compliance to order passed by High Court of Meghalaya in PlL No.2 of 2022 where court directed the Meghalaya Government to ensure not an ounce of any form of illegally mined coal is allowed to pass whether in Trucks or vehicles.
