IIT Guwahati and University of Southern Denmark join forces for global tech and sustainability push

IIT Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to drive cross-border collaboration in research, innovation, and academic exchange.
The agreement, signed by IIT Guwahati Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal and SDU’s Dean of Engineering Prof. Henrik Bindslev, aims to create a strong academia-industry–government nexus. Jørgen Mads Clausen, Chairman of Danfoss and Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Denmark in the Emirates, attended the event, underlining the importance of such partnerships for scalable, real-world impact.
Central to the collaboration is the creation of a Center of Excellence for Indo-Danish innovation and translational research at IIT Guwahati. The partnership will also launch joint Master’s and PhD programs featuring co-supervision and mutual credit recognition.
Additional initiatives include student and faculty exchanges to promote academic mobility and global exposure, as well as joint research targeting sustainable technologies, energy efficiency, and climate solutions.
“This collaboration reinforces our vision to position IIT Guwahati as a global hub for technology, research, and academic excellence,” said Prof. Jalihal. “Together with SDU and through industry engagement, we aim to develop sustainable solutions addressing pressing global challenges.”
A joint steering committee, comprising members from academia and industry, will oversee the partnership. The alliance also plans to attract industry participation and funding to strengthen the scope and execution of its programs.
The IIT Guwahati–SDU MoU marks a significant step in the Indo-Danish relationship, aligning the goals of both nations in sustainability, knowledge exchange, and technological leadership.
