IIM Shillong marks Independence Day, calls for building Viksit Bharat by 2047

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, emphasising the role of students, faculty, and staff in contributing to a developed and self-reliant India by 2047. The event honoured the sacrifices of freedom fighters while highlighting leadership, innovation, and nation-building as essential tools for shaping the country’s future.
The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Tricolour by Prof. Nalini Prava Tripathy, Director (I/C), at the 100-ft flagpole, followed by the singing of the national anthem by the entire IIM Shillong community.
In her address, Prof. Tripathy extended greetings to students, faculty, officers, staff, and their families, emphasising that true independence goes beyond political freedom to include economic, technological, and intellectual empowerment. She encouraged students to tackle pressing challenges such as environmental sustainability and inclusive growth, and reminded them that leadership is about creating positive impact, not merely holding titles. Every classroom, project, and internship, she noted, is an opportunity to contribute toward a Viksit Bharat by 2047 through innovation, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making.
A highlight of the day was the Award Ceremony recognising outsourced staff members whose dedication ensures smooth campus operations. Col. (Retd.) Dinesh Adhikari, Chief Administrative Officer, commended their invaluable contributions.
The celebrations concluded with a vibrant cultural programme featuring poetry recitations, dance, and skit performances by students and staff, showcasing the diversity and talent of the IIM Shillong community.
This year’s Independence Day at IIM Shillong was not just a tribute to India’s freedom fighters but also a reaffirmation of the institute’s mission to nurture future leaders committed to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
