IICA launches first regional campus in NE with Rs 100.95 Cr PM-DevINE boost, driving governance and growth from Shillong

In a major step toward decentralizing capacity building and advancing corporate governance in the Northeast, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) has officially acquired five acres in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, to establish its first regional campus. Backed by a Rs 100.95-crore investment under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East (PM-DevINE), the Shillong campus will function as a specialized hub for training, research, and policy advisory in key sectors such as ESG, CSR, Insolvency, Competition Law, and Board Leadership.
The land transfer ceremony was presided over by Meghalaya Chief Secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang and Ministry of Corporate Affairs Secretary Deepti Gaur Mukerjee. Also in attendance were IICA Director General & CEO Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary Inderdeep Singh Dhariwal, Commissioner & Secretary C.V.D. Diengdoh, and (Col.) Amandeep Singh Puri, among others. The formal handover was conducted by K. Hynniewta from the Meghalaya Planning Department and Shekhar Srivastava from the Union Government.
Calling it a “historic moment,” DG Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh described the Shillong campus as “our first baby outside Delhi—a symbol of decentralization and empowerment.” He emphasized the institute’s role in supporting national missions such as Ease of Doing Business, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Vikshit Bharat @ 2047 while aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s “Rising Northeast” vision. “This campus is not just an expansion—it’s a commitment to ‘Transformation by Transportation,’” he added, citing the strategic value of infrastructural development in the region.
Chief Secretary Wahlang lauded the initiative and emphasized the campus’s prime location in the Knowledge City cluster, already home to institutions like IIM Shillong, National Law University, and NIFT. He noted that a new airport is in the pipeline, which will significantly enhance Shillong’s connectivity and appeal as an academic and professional hub.
Secretary Deepti Gaur Mukerjee highlighted the spirit of cooperative federalism that made the project possible, appreciating Meghalaya’s proactive support. She reiterated the Centre’s commitment to empowering the Northeast as a national growth engine.
Construction of the campus is expected to begin immediately, with academic and advisory operations anticipated to commence within the current financial year. IICA, which has previously trained over 300 professionals across Northeastern states, plans to expand collaborations with local universities and institutions to offer tailored programmes that reflect regional needs and aspirations.
With this move, IICA strengthens its commitment to building ethical entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and accountable leaders—from the heart of the Northeast.
