I-League: Sreenidi Deccan FC, Lajong ready for battle in first ever encounter

Shillong Lajong FC is set to play their second home game against Sreenidi Deccan FC from Hyderabad on Tuesday at 2 pm at the SSA Stadium in Shillong.

Following a draw in their previous match against Neroca FC, Lajong now faces the challenge of confronting the formidable Sreenidi Deccan FC. Sreenidi Deccan FC has showcased their strength with two wins, defeating Neroca FC 4-0 in the first match and Inter Kashi 4-1 in the second. Despite a loss to Aizawl FC in their last game, they currently hold the 3rd position on the table with 6 points from 3 matches.

In a pre-match press conference on Monday, Sreenidi’s head coach, Carlos Vaz Pinto, expressed the team’s readiness for the upcoming match against Lajong. He acknowledged studying their opponents thoroughly, especially after a disappointing loss in their last home game. Emphasizing the challenge of playing on Lajong’s home ground, Vaz Pinto highlighted the anticipated difficulty of the game.

On the other hand, Shillong Lajong FC has accumulated two points from two matches, both ending in 1-1 draws against Mohammedan SC and Neroca FC. Currently positioned 10th on the points table.

Lajong’s head coach, Bobby Nongbet, declared in the pre-match press conference that the team is aiming for three points against Sreenidi FC. Reflecting on their performance in the draw against Neroca, Nongbet expects an improved display from the team to secure their first three points at home.

Notably, this match marks the first encounter between the two teams in the history of the I-League. The unique battle is expected to be intriguing, considering Lajong’s home advantage and strong support.

Sreenidi Deccan FC, led by Portuguese head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto, is regarded as one of the favorites for this season’s I-League, having finished as runners-up in the previous edition.

The match will pose another significant test for Shillong Lajong as they need to perform at their best to achieve a positive result.
