The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday served a 7-day ultimatum to the authority of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) to comply with the four-point demands which include to revise the vacancy list by allocating 7.5% (8 seats) for ST candidates.

In a letter to the Director of NEIGRIHMS, HYC has alleged violation of the ST reservation policy and said only 2 seats out of 107 vacancies for the Posts of Nursing Officer have been allocated for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, instead of the mandated 7.5% reservation for STs i.e. 8 seats.

“Therefore, we demand that you forthwith: Revise the vacancy list to allocate 7.5% (8 seats) for ST candidates, as mandated by law. Ensure strict adherence to the 80: 20 female-to-male ratio, as practice by AIIMS and other Institutes. Establish exam centres within Meghalaya to prevent undue influence and ensure transparency. Provide age relaxation to candidates, as is customary in cases of delayed recruitment,” it said.

“We urged upon you to take immediate corrective action to address the concerns raised by us above by issuing an addendum/corrigendum, whichever necessary, within a period of seven (7) days from today and failing which we will have no option but to organise public protest against the Institute for its deliberate and wilful attempt to recognised our rightful demands and concerns,” the letter stated.

The HYC further warned, “That if our demands are not met, we will protest accordingly and we will not be held responsible for any consequences arising therefrom.”

The other issues highlighted by the HYC include the alleged neglect of local representation, repeated selection of male nurses from Rajasthan

“As evident from earlier Recruitment process, Male nurses from the same centres in Rajasthan have been selected across all categories, except for the ST category, despite poor clinical performance. We were informed that numerous complaints were raised by staffs and patients about the subpar performance of these nurses but these concerns were not addressed by the authorities,” it said.
