SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has expressed strong opposition against the state government’s decision to extend the services of Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer CP Marak as the chairman of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB).

In a statement issued here on Monday, HYC general secretary Roykupar Synrem said as per the government notification issued on December 23, the services of Marak has been extended from January 1, 2020.

Strongly opposing this decision, Roy said that according to information received by the council, Marak is supposed to go for retirement on December 31, as the PCCF & HoF as well as chairman of the board.

“And in his place, YS Shullai IFS is supposed to be appointed as the next PCCF & HoF of the forest department from January 1, 2020. Shullai is also due to go for retirement after 9 months. It is suprising to see that the state government is not appointing him (Shullai) as chairman of the board and instead is extending the services of an officer who is retiring. Is the government adopting a bias attitude or why is it trying to trample on the rights of deserving officers,” he said.

The HYC also demanded the state government to revoke its decision and appoint Shullai as chairman of the board.

“We also demand the state government to appoint IAS officer Hector Marwein as the new chief secretary,” he said adding that on failing, the Council will be compelled to take stern action against the state government.
