Following the demand for winter capital in Tura by Garo Hills based social organizations, two organisations from Jaintia Hills region namely the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Jaintia Hills region and the HYC West Khasi Hills District are now battling out each other for Autumn Capital in Jaintia Hills region and Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District respectively.

The HYC Jaintia Hill made the demand to the Meghalaya Government for designating Jaintia Hills region as Autumn Capital while considering the fact that there 7 MLAs to the state assembly and a separate Autonomous District Council of 30 members, which is at par with the Garo Hills region which also has Autonomous District Council of 30 members.

The HYC asserted that the designating of Autumn Capital will ensure the flow of more development work to Jaintia hills and ensure the opportunity for setting up more numbers of administration offices in the district and also ensure the timely delivery of administrative services to the citizens of the District.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the HYC West Khasi Hills made the demand for Autumn in Nongstoin for speedy up developmental works in the areas.
