SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Tuesday shut down several shops in the city after they were found to be operating without any trading license.

The checking named as Sier Lapalang Operation was conducted by the members of the organising committee of the HYC central body at Iewduh market.

“As many as 200 shops owned by non-tribal traders were found to be without any trading license or labour license and they were asked to close down immediately,” HYC organising secretary Gee Mawlong said.

He informed that the Council would soon submit the list of such illegal traders to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). “We would also pressurise the district council to take stern action against such violators,” Mawlong said.

Meanwhile, the HYC said that it would further intensify its Sier Lapalang operation in the coming days.
