In light of the blatant act of insult and disrespect by one youtuber at the Church located in Mawlynnong East Khasi Hills District, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council ( HYC) Central Executive Council has urged the Meghalaya Government to introduce SoPs of Do’s and Don’ts for tourists visiting places of religious importance.

It may be mentioned here that one you tuber known as ‘Akash Sagar’ chanting Jai Ram inside a Church at Mawlynnong few days and subsequently Angela Rangad lodged a zero FIR in Laitumkhrah Police Station against Sagar.

Reacting to the incident, the Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council views the chanting of Jai Rai as a direct attack to people following Christian faith and beliefs and a deliberate attempt to create communal tension in the State and imposing majoritarian agenda which is completely unacceptable.

The Council asked the Police Department to Sagar and his accomplices, if any, at the earliest and make him face the consequences of his actions as per the provisions of the law(s). An example should be set by the law enforcing agencies of the State in the instant case so that such acts are not repeated in the near future and no one should have the audacity to disrespect the Christian religion in the State.

The HYC urged upon the Government and all stakeholders, particularly those involved in the tourism sector not to take such acts for granted and should create awareness at the earliest amongst the Tourists visiting the State to be sensitive towards the sentiments of the people of the State, regardless of any faith or beliefs, and to also have some SOPs of the Do’s and Don’ts while visiting various sites and particularly places of religious importance.
