The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Monday said it has not received any letter from the opposition Congress for discussing the need to form a new dispensation in the state.

Speaking to reporters after a party meeting, HSPDP secretary and cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said that the party will only decide on the matter when it receives the letter.

“Let the letter come, we will discuss this collectively and look into whether it is a matter that can be considered for discussion…,” Tongkhar said.

The opposition Congress had decided to write to all the MDA coalition partners on the need to form a new government citing that the state is not in safe hands following the August 15 protest against the alleged gunning down of former HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew.

Asked, the HSPDP leader however said that the party is very much concerned about the prevailing law and order situation in the state but at the same time appreciates the steps taken by the state government.

“The government had taken prompt decision to institute a judicial inquiry and we have full faith in the inquiry so that the truth will come out,” he said while adding that the government is taking up the matter very seriously to ensure peace and normalcy is restored in the state.

Tongkhar also appreciated the stand taken by the bereaved family. “The family of Late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew have expressed their willingness to wait for the report of the judicial inquiry and had requested the people not to protest,” he added.
