Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) chief KP Pangniang on Wednesday reiterated the party’s demand to include all 12 areas of difference in the official map of Meghalaya.

Addressing media persons, Pangniang said that at present there are two official maps of Meghalaya in which one map includes all 12 areas of difference while the other one (which is used in) all government institutions does not include the 12 areas of difference.

The HSPDP leader was clarifying the allegation that he had made a false statement by saying that the 12 areas of difference are no longer under the territory of Meghalaya.

“The statement that 12 areas of difference does not fall under Meghalaya’s territory is not my saying but I am telling the truth and the fact which is as per the official maps of Meghalaya,” he said.

He said even in the google map, the 12 areas of difference are no longer in the map of Meghalaya.

Pangiang also recalled that during his tenure as MLA, he had raised this issue in the Assembly, demanding the state government that all the areas of difference should be included in the official map of Meghalaya even though “we still need to settle the dispute with Assam”.

“We have also demanded that the official map, which does not have these areas of difference, should not be put in public domain or for official use in the administration of the state,” he said.

Pangniang said that the party had strongly demanded the previous governments and now to the government of the day that “we need to resettle and redraw the map of the state.”
