The party supremo and former legislator KP Pangniang is one among the candidates declared by the party. He will be contesting against the NPP candidate Kimfa S Marbaniang, who recently resigned as MLA, from Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency.

The other candidates include Evalyne Kharbani (Mawhati), Primson Makdoh (Umsning), Shakliar Warjri (Mawthadraishan), Sanjied Kynsai Shangrit  (Nongstoin), Methodeius Dkhar (Mawshynrut) and Milansing Lyngdoh (Mawkyrwat).

Speaking to media persons, chairman of the election committee, Witting Mawsor said that the party will also soon release its second list of 5-6 candidates from East Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills.

He said the party is planning to field at least 12-15 candidates for the upcoming election.

Despite the party going to the election with no sitting MLAs after both – Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong) and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat) have decided to join the NPP and UDP respective, Pangiang expressed confidence that the party will no doubt perform well in the coming elections.

He cited that the people of the state are still having faith in the HSPDP.

“The people of the state still believe in the party especially when it comes to safeguarding the interest of the indigenous community like the protection of land and fighting for laws that will safeguard the interest of the state,” he added
